At the core of TB Free Namibia is our commitment to patient advocacy and community engagement. We actively support the global approach to community mobilization in the fight against TB, and we align with the National TB Strategic Plan for 2022/2023-2027/2028, which emphasizes equality and access to healthcare while combating stigma and discrimination.
National Guidelines Contribution: We are proud to have participated in the revision of Namibia’s national guidelines for the management of TB. Our involvement ensures that patient perspectives are considered in shaping policies and strategies that will affect TB care across the country.
Support for Research: TB Free Namibia actively supports and encourages research activities that contribute to the understanding and management of tuberculosis. We believe that innovative research is key to addressing the unique challenges our country faces in TB control.
Training of TB Champions: We have trained TB champions from the community, equipping them with the knowledge and tools to raise awareness, educate others, and advocate for TB patients. These champions play an essential role in mobilizing communities and reducing stigma.
Empowering TB Survivors: We work closely with ex-TB patients to share their stories and experiences, using their voices to educate the community about the realities of living with TB. These survivors are central to our awareness campaigns, as their lived experiences help to break down stigma and inspire others to seek care.
Identifying Gaps in the System: By collaborating with both ex- and current TB patients, we identify gaps in the healthcare system to prevent the loss of patients during the diagnosis and treatment process. This feedback is crucial for improving patient care and outcomes.
Policy Engagement: We engage directly with policymakers and leaders to ensure that the rights of TB patients are protected. Through advocacy, we push for equitable access to healthcare and work to influence policies that will create lasting change for the most vulnerable populations.
Reaching Marginalized and Vulnerable Populations: Thanks to our reliable sponsorships, we facilitate the efforts of community healthcare workers who provide critical outreach to marginalized and vulnerable populations, including those in remote areas. These workers are essential in extending healthcare access to those who would otherwise be overlooked by the system.
